Local League Presidents, State Board, League Friends:

League members,
It is exciting to share that Judy Ball, President of the League of Women
Voters of Morgantown-Monongalia County, is serving on the Federal
Judiciary Study Committee! This is a fantastic opportunity to learn
about and contribute to a League study from its earliest stages by
joining the Federal Judiciary Study Kickoff!
League studies like this are increasingly rare, often replaced by
Consensus studies due to the historically lengthy process involved.
However, this study is intentionally designed with a shortened time
frame, aiming to establish a final position by June 2025. This makes it
a unique chance to have your voice heard and to influence League work on
this important topic.
I encourage all members to participate in the webinar [1] on November 20
at 6 pm ET or register [1] to stay updated on the study materials and
timeline. Engaging early ensures you're part of shaping this critical
initiative, showcasing the power of the League in addressing pressing
issues.
Let's support Judy and the entire Committee in this significant effort!
Best, Jonathan

Dear Jonathan,
At the 2024 LWVUS Convention, Leagues overwhelmingly agreed to conduct a
new national study on the Federal Judiciary. The study will be completed
in a shortened time frame -- conducted in just one year, with the final
position set to be announced at LWVUS Council in June 2025.
I am happy to report that the work on this study has commenced. A
Committee has been appointed and will be led by Kimberley Fraser (DC),
LWVEF trustee. The Committee also includes Helen Hutchison (CA), Cecile
Scoon (FL), Judy Ball (WV), Joan Hunault (MI), Susan Hart (TX), and Nan
Shuker (DC).
The Committee will provide members with an overview of the study
timeline, scope, and materials during a webinar [4] on November 20,
2024, at 6pm ET. Please join us to hear more from the Committee chair
and vice-chair and find out how you can be part of this LWVUS study.
REGISTER NOW: FEDERAL JUDICIARY STUDY KICKOFF [5]
Even if you cannot attend the webinar, registering will ensure you
receive any materials shared.
We look forward to continuing to work together to successfully execute
this study.

*VOTE411 Update: 54 candidates and counting. Help us get more. *
LWV of WV is excited to be participating in VOTE411 this year. *VOTE411.org*
<http://VOTE411.org> is designed to be a “one-stop shop” for election
information, providing voters with simple, accessible tools to help them
navigate the voting process. VOTE411 provides personalized candidate
information, early voting dates, polling place locations, and other helpful
election information for all voters nationwide.
Additionally, VOTE411 is designed to help voters understand where
candidates stand on the issues they care about most. To make our guides, we
asked local, state, and national candidates about issues of importance to
our communities. Candidates’ responses are shared word for word.
However, despite repeated outreach from the League and VOTE411, some
candidates have not yet answered our questions. 2024 will be a pivotal
election for our democracy, and voters deserve to hear directly from all
candidates running for office in their communities. That’s where you come
in.
*Have your candidates answered our questions?* Enter your address at
*VOTE411.org* <http://VOTE411.org> to find out. If not, click here
<https://www.vote411.org/candidate-contact> to help get candidates to
respond.
Together we can hold candidates accountable for providing West Virginia
voters with the information we need.
*Informing & Empowering Voters: Send Us Your GOTV Pics *
Please send a photo of you voting, registering folks to vote, promoting
VOTE411 to lynwidmyer(a)gmail.com We love to see photos of our members doing
what we do best: Informing and empowering voters with knowledge. We will do
a collage and send it out to you on Election Day. Thanks for all you do!

I thought I'd share two engaging virtual exhibits now available from the
Art Museum of WVU that may pique your interest:
*
Our Votes, Our Values [1]: This powerful exhibit explores the history
and impact of voting, a topic deeply aligned with the League's mission
to empower voters and strengthen democracy. You can explore it online at
your convenience.
*
Afterward, you might enjoy Mapping Climate Change: The Knitting Map and
The Tempestry Project [2], which creatively visualizes the pressing
global issue of climate change through art and textiles.
Best regards,
Jonathan
