Jonathan and those at Positive Spin.
In February I did a mission trip to Haiti with the objective of helping kids at a school repair their own bicycles. The response I got was overwhelming, so many kids came to us wanting bicycles repaired. I quickly ran out of parts (that I brought from home) so I went to the next city to find a bicycle shop and after buying what I could there I ran out of some stuff again. I got a couple high school students interested, serving as my apprentices and I'm confident they can run the program in my absence. We must have fixed up a total of 40 bicycles over 3 days with the time and resources we had.
So, I was wondering if Positive Spin could help me with a future project, especially since they are moving. I would love to take an excess of bicycle parts for future missionary purposes. The mission I work with, they would provide all the shipping and in fact are based in Maryland.
I have been meaning to share photos of my experience on the Positive Spin Facebook page, as it appears to have been dormant.
We can use tools as well, but not entire bicycles as it appeared there are enough of them over there already. Believe it or not, many people have bicycles over there but don't ride them as often as they would as they are often down for repairs. We are also hoping to make bicycle repair as part of the middle school curriculum. Think of it as Positive Spin in Haiti.
Any help is utmost appreciated.
You may call me anytime 304-694-8651 to discuss this further. I spoke to Will about it, but with the shop closed for the winter (I went in Feb) it was difficult to get in touch further.
Cheers,
'Tiger' Joe Sallmen
