Hi Moriah, Jonathan, Emily, Ella, Tim, Leah,
I own Twin Spruce Marina, at the Uffington Trailhead for the Mon River Trail South. For the last year, I have been working to develop it as a Community River & Trail Center (of sorts). And to encourage muscle-powered boating/biking. My business is called Dream Mon LLC.
I wonder if there's a collaborative day that we can have the volunteers help with centered around my location & the rail-trail?
Ideas: Clean up the Mon River edges of trash? Tim could use his Mon River Monitor pontoon boat to hold the garbage bags? Rail-trail clean up or building a bench for another rest area? Building bird houses or bat houses? And installing? Removal of non-native invasives such as Japanese Knotweed or Tree of Heaven along the river and trail? I might have some outdoor painting or landscape work for them to do at the Marina, or building bike racks or canoe/kayak racks.
I could host them to have a paddle trip afterwards, since I have a fleet of canoes/kayaks for about 15 people.

I agree, it would be great if we can have a volunteer at the shop that day to direct the service work. Could be cleaning the shop, painting, and simple bike work. Jonathan, let me know if that is of interest and I will make sure it is an option for the students.

Hello All,
This might be a good opportunity to host students at the shop for any larger maintenance or other projects (see below).
Feel free to reach out to Leah directly if there's interest in setting something up.
Best, Emily

Hello! My name is Leah Cunningham, and I'm the AmeriCorps VISTA at WVU's Center for Civic Engagement. I'm writing to you in hopes that you could host 25-30 student volunteers for Adventure WV's annual Day of Service, on Friday, August 16th. The students are brand-new incoming freshman for the Fall 2013 semester. The project time is from 9am-3pm, and we are willing to help with any and all projects. Transportation and lunch will be provided for volunteers. Please let me know if you would be interested in hosting students for a volunteer project!
