Positive Spin Committee Meeting (8/13/13):
Upon the start of the upcoming Fall semester, a team of mechanical and aerospace engineering students at WVU will begin the team’s third year of participation in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Human Powered Vehicle Challenge (HPVC). The competition encourages students to demonstrate the application of sound engineering design principles in the development of sustainable and practical transportation alternatives. For each of the past two years, the WVU team has ranked top 10 in the overall scoring which consists of a design event, a speed/drag race event, an innovation event, and an endurance race.
The WVU HPVC team is interested in exploring the opportunity to work with Positive Spin not only to provide a means of teaching team members basic shop and bicycle maintenance skills, but also to serve as a resource of competent mechanics to aid in Positive Spin’s efforts. At this time, the team has proposed to dedicate 1 class period per week in which team members will volunteer at the Positive Spin facility (further details will be provided once the students are able to meet as a team).
