LOGO DESIGN COMPETITION POSITIVE SPIN MORGANTOWN’S NONPROFIT BICYCLE COLLECTIVE positivespin.org <http://www.positivespin.org> Send Submissions to: contest(a)positivespin.org Details: Positive Spin, a nonprofit community bike shop/collective located in Marilla Park, is in need of a new logo. None of our frequent volunteers have expertise in this area, so we are looking to the community for help. Prizes: 1st Prize - $100.00 2nd Prize - $50.00 3rd Prize - $25.00 What We Are Looking For: It is important that the design be scaleable. It needs to work on everything from business cards and letterheads to shirts and signs. It should render well in both grayscale and color. Simple is probably better for this reason, but as we said, we aren’t the experts. If you think you have an idea that will work, we are open to all ideas. Contact us at info(a)positivespin.org, or stop by our shop. We’re behind the skatepark in Marilla Park and open Friday and Saturday (1-5pm) as long as the weather permits because our facility is not insulated. Format, Size, and Ownership: Please send contest submissions in jpg, png, or pdf format with maximum file size of 5MB. Winners will be required to send their full size design in a non-proprietary format with a vertical resolution of at least 2400 pixels, so that printing can be rendered up to 8 inches at 300 dpi, and up to 32 inches at 75 dpi. Use this formula if you’re not sure: pixels (2400 pixels) divided by resolution (300 dpi) = printable size (8 inches). Winners agree to transfer all rights, title and interest in their design to Positive Spin Incorporated. Who We Are: Our objective is to provide better access to affordable bikes for all people and to empower individuals to perform their own bicycle maintenance. Anyone can walk into Positive Spin, purchase a restored bicycle, work on their own bicycle for free, volunteer to help around the shop, or work on bikes that will be sold or given away to good causes. We have an earn a bike program allowing anyone, regardless of financial situation, to earn a bike in exchange for volunteering. Every holiday, over 100 bikes that have been repaired by volunteers are given away to needy children at Christian Help’s Toy Distribution. During the 2015-16 season we will donating a large number of bicycles to Bikes for the World, a charity that sends bikes to those in need around the world. Deadline: All entries must be submitted by December 1, 2015.

Positive Spin and Oxfam America @ WVU are hosting a fundraiser this Monday at Evansdale McDonald's to raise money for Positive Spin's Bikes for the World <http://bikesfortheworld.org> project! The fundraiser (Phase II) is only for a short period of time between 5-8pm in which we are challenged to raise McDonald's sales by 5%; if everyone reading this announcement stops by that will happen! All money raised will go towards paying for shipping donated bikes to areas in need! So treat yourself, and get that special McDonlds item you've been thinking about. Eat cookies to generate funds

Today is our last Spin with CRC ride/potluck of the season at 1pm, and it is going to be spectacular. It will be slightly cool (upper 50's) and cloudy with no rain in the forecast, in translation, amazing biking weather! Positive Spin is not only well know for giving away hundreds of bikes every year during Christian Help's Toy Giveaway, but we also have a history of sending bikes to other countries through our partnership with Bikes for the World <http://www.bikesfortheworld.org/>. After a few years of postponement due to low capacity, we once again have a large collection of bikes that while not of interest to the local community, are in high demand by low income people in other countries. Thanks to our new partnership with Oxfam WVU there will be a couple opportunities next month to help raise funds in order to ship these bikes. The first opportunity will be at Insomnia Cookies <https://insomniacookies.com/shopping/find_store> on November 2 from 11am-3am. Make sure to order many cookies that day and spread the word! The second opportunity will be at McDonald's on November 9 from 5-8pm. During that time we need to increase their sales by 5%. Spread the word! -Jonathan

Fall Spectacular Bike Ride - Sunday - Spin with CRC! Potluck!

This Sunday, October 25, we will be spinning again with Country Road Cyclists for our Fall Spectacular Ride! Everyone is invited. Beginning at 1pm at Positive Spin, we will join Country Roads Cyclists (CRC) for a ride up the Deckers Creek Trail to Masontown (milepost 13), then return to Positive Spin. Keep in mind that you can ride whatever distance you want, this is one of the nice aspects about group trail rides. Then we will have an informal potluck picnic at Positive Spin about 4:30pm. Please bring a dish to share, or food can be purchased in Sabraton. A grill will be available. Attached is a group photo from our last ride on August 30. -Jonathan

Impressions - Celebration of Tyler's Life

The Celebration of Tyler's Life was wonderful. It included a balloon release in which you could sense Tyler's spirit floating away, and a candle light vigil as well as video with music interspersed, including soothing harp music by John Lozier (one of the founders). Will Ravenscroft (one of the founders) worked out the logistics for the event. I was privileged to meet Tyler's family and several friends. I left feeling positive with renewed hope for humanity. Attached are two eulogies. The one I presented, and the one that Nick Hein (one of the founders) sent. -Jonathan
