New shop openings for volunteers

Good news! We have added 2 Tuesdays per month to our shop opening schedule on the 2nd and 4th week of each month. Please note that currently these Tuesdays are dedicated openings for volunteers only and are not for customers; a no-sales/no-trades-ins/no-repairs policy will be strictly enforced. However, donations will be received during this time. The reason for this policy is that we presently require openings in which volunteers can dedicate their time to repairing donated bicycles. However, this policy may be revised in the future primarily due to WVU's Human Powered Vehicle Competition Team class providing 2 hours a week time to the shop throughout the semester, beginning this week. If we discover there is a good supply of repaired bicycles, that would be motivation to change the Tuesday policy. Also, we now have enough repair stands to easily facilitate 10 volunteers at a time! Dan Emery fabricated 5 additional stands utilizing a design by Kenny Rice. We tested them out this Saturday, and we were impressed. Here are the additional shop openings for Sept-Oct: September 10 - 6-8pm September 24 - 6-8pm October 8 - 6-8pm October 22 - 6-8pm -Jonathan

Thank-you to Kids Triathlon safety check volunteers

Thank-you to all the volunteers who made Friday's (August 23rd) Kids Triathlon safety check a success! In total 9 volunteers came out. Tally: noon session - Ryan, Andrew, Dan and Jonathan (4); afternoon session - Ryan, Andrew, Dan, Jonathan Jen, Will, Colin, Mark and Ethan (9). Special thanks goes to WVU Research Corporations Science Behind Cycling's Ryan Stocking and Andrew Hoover. Having them there, along with the extra supplies and educational demonstrations for the kids, made the whole process much easier. From Positive Spin, special thanks goes out to Dan Emery (in photo below), Jen Previll, Will Ravenscroft, Colin Frosch, Mark Schuchardt, Ethan Garrison and Jonathan Rosenbaum. MTEC and Positive Spin

People Yesterday afternoon Earl Schiffbauer stopped by Spin to inquire about continuing the collaboration between MTEC and Spin. Earl uses bicycle repair as a method to teach mechanical skills to his students. In the past we have provided bicycles and parts and they have then donated the repaired bicycles to us. They currently have 20-30 bicycles that were donated directly to them but will need some parts from us. The advantages of continuing this cooperation were so obvious to me that I readily agreed. So if we get lists of needed parts please try to find them or get the list to me and I will see what I can find. Jonathan The helmet order looks good but: Please add 5 more model 38 helmets. I will pay for them because I want to advertize $12 skate board helmets for sale at the skate park as a way of getting people to come over for a visit.
