Impressions - Celebration of Tyler's Life

The Celebration of Tyler's Life was wonderful. It included a balloon release in which you could sense Tyler's spirit floating away, and a candle light vigil as well as video with music interspersed, including soothing harp music by John Lozier (one of the founders). Will Ravenscroft (one of the founders) worked out the logistics for the event. I was privileged to meet Tyler's family and several friends. I left feeling positive with renewed hope for humanity. Attached are two eulogies. The one I presented, and the one that Nick Hein (one of the founders) sent. -Jonathan

Positive Spin will be opening it's doors this Tuesday for the family and friends of Tyler Nelson to celebrate his life and bid him farewell. As one of the first volunteers at Positive Spin he recently was elected to the Board of Directors to help us bring in more young people and introduce them to bicycling and the art of bicyle repair. We will miss him. The celebration begins at 5PM. Food will be available, bring an edible contribution if you feel like it. Will

Board member passes away unexpectedly - Tyler Nelson

The Board of Positive Spin deeply regrets to inform you of the sudden passing of Board member Tyler Nelson this Saturday, September 27. He was voted in as a director at our recent June 28 Annual Meeting and 10th Anniversary Celebration. In the attached photo he is shown standing at the celebration with two of Positive Spin's founders, Jon Lozier and Will Ravenscroft. In 2005 Tyler was a motivating factor in starting Positive Spin for its third founder, Nick Hein, after Nick helped the 10-year-old fix his bike.

Bike to school help - Mountainview 9/11 or 9/14/15

Sorry for cross postings. Christiaan ------ I'm organizing a ride of 1st-5th graders from my bus stop to Mountainview ES next Friday (9/11/15) or the following Monday (9/14/15) depending on weather, interest, and availability of kids and adults. I know we definitely have 3 kids interested and able. Here are the particulars of the route that I practiced with my 1st grade son: 2.33 miles Duration: 24:24 Pace: 10.5 min/mi http://www.mapmyfitness.com/ workout/1145337615 I know I have at least 2 parents that will ride with & help lead and follow. We definitely need two more to help with potential mechanical issues, and as we cross Dorsey (twice) and lift bikes over a set of small poles in one person's side yard that are in the public right-of-way very near Marjorie Gardens. We'll meet at 7:45am on Wagner Road near the intersection with Simpson Street to do a quick briefing about ride safety and talk about the route. I can lead that since I "speak kid language." We'd need to leave by 8:00 to allow for an 8:30 arrival (buffer of 10 minutes or so before school starts). I do NOT plan to let the teachers, bus driver, or school administrators know until the day prior. This is just a test to see if we can/should encourage more kids to join us. ZEV electric bikes, next Saturday at Spin

Saturday September 12th, Positive Spin is having an open house featuring *ZEV electric bicycles*. These bikes are built in Westover and shipped around the world. Come on down and find out what is happening. Take one for a spin! This is truly a transportation revolution in Asia and Europe and we need get up to speed in our country. The founder and developers of ZEV Electric will be at Spin to talk about their designs and other electric vehicles they are producing. This event will be 1-4PM during our regular shop hours. Will

Complete Streets Study - Public input for University Ave

Reminder, ride/potluck at the Spin this Sunday at 1pm! Also, if you bike, walk, drive or ride the bus along University Avenue you will want to attend the public input meeting for a Complete Streets study of this corridor. It will be held on both Monday, August 31 and Tuesday, September 1 in the Gold Ballroom in the Mountainlair from 10am to 3pm. -Jonathan

Bike Ride - Sunday - Spin with CRC! Potluck!

This Sunday, August 30, we will be spinning again with Country Road Cyclists! Everyone is invited. Beginning at 1pm at Positive Spin, we will join Country Roads Cyclists (CRC) for a ride up the Deckers Creek Trail to Masontown (milepost 13), then return to Positive Spin. Keep in mind that you can ride whatever distance you want, this is one of the nice aspects about group trail rides. Then we will have an informal potluck picnic at Positive Spin about 4:30pm. Please bring a dish to share, or food can be purchased in Sabraton. A grill will be available. -Jonathan

So I did not understand clearly what was happening on Friday and it will be fun. We will have the 24 honors students from 8:45 to noon. We *also *have 24 Adventure WV incoming freshmen (and women) from 8:45 until 3:30. Just our typical chaos but in an effort to impart a little organization I attached a list of projects we can get to work on. If you have other ideas send them to me or bring them with you if you are coming to help (or to cause more disorder). Will

Change in shop hours for Sundays

Our shop hours on Sundays are changing. The shop will now be open from 11am until 4pm. Hours on Friday and Saturday remain the same; 1pm until 5pm. -Jonathan
