Bicycle Storage Workshop

Good morning, I thank everyone who participated in the doodle poll to determine a good time to hold the Bicycle Storage workshop. After discussing the schedule of the workshop, the timing of City Council and Planning Commission meetings and room availability, a more tenable time for the workshop would be during the Bicycle Board meeting. The workshop will occur at 6:40 P.M. on Thursday, June 2, 1016 in the training room at the Public Safety Building. What does this mean? Please come to the regularly scheduled Bicycle Board Meeting, because planning commissioners will be there to discuss bicycle storage and I'm bringing a cake. Thanks! Bike to Work Day & Bike Rodeo this Friday and Sunday

Hello everyone, I want to update you on the events this Friday and Sunday but before I do, *we need more VOLUNTEERS for Sunday. Please let me know if you can help. * *Bike to work Day, Friday, May 20th* - 8-8:30am Ruby McQuain Park - Volunteers: Chip, Drew, Christina, Christiaan and Bridget - Rich from The Grind will be there between 7:30 - 8am to deliver coffee and snacks/baked goods. - We have certificates from: Wamsley Cycles, Pathfinder, and Morgantown Brewing Company (MBC). MBC will also be giving everyone who comes in that rides there bike (must show helmet) a 15% discount on their bill on the 20th. - We need to supply: table, raffle tickets, Gift Certificates (Chip) - 5-5:15pm Ruby McQuain Park - Volunteers: Drew, Chip, Bridget - Can choose to leave a few raffle prizes for the evening. - Riding to get beers and dinner. *Bike Rodeo, Sunday May 22* - South Middle School parking lot - 1-4pm - Volunteers: Chip, Drew, Jonathan R & 2-4 volunteers from Positive Spin - Positive Spin is donating 2 bikes for the day - 3 stations: Safety (Morgantown Police - Maintenance (Chip) - Skills (Drew) - Needs: *MORE VOLUNTEERS, *table, cones for skills clinic. 2016 Bicycle Storage Plan Workshop

Good morning, As has been discussed on this forum, the Planning Commission has tabled the bicycle storage zoning text amendment and has requested a workshop to explore the topic in more detail. At the meeting, the commissioners had concerns regarding the need for infrastructure given current rack use (or non-use in their individual opinions), need for storage infrastructure prior to lane infrastructure, and cost to developers. These concerns are all valid, and more importantly, are not unique to this type of request. For some reason bicycle lanes and racks are often perceived as being empty (even if they aren't), instead of being envisioned as means to create a mode of mobility. The President of the Planning Commission noted that more information would provide for a better recommendation to City Council, and this information is going to have to come from members of the cycling community and the bicycle board. A workshop is being prepared to involve a roundtable discussion on the bicycle storage text amendments and infrastructure in general. I will be compiling data on use and economic impacts of cycling and bicycle storage in general, and will provide a brief presentation to kick-off the conversation. Once I have a draft completed, I will share it with the board. It will be necessary for members of the Bicycle Board to attend this workshop and provide the commissioners with personal testimony on the need for this zoning text amendment, and bicycle infrastructure in general. The commission's concerns can and will be mitigated after this meeting. Additionally, the June 1st Traffic Commission meeting will also require some level of bicycle board participation, as there will be a conversation regarding the storage requirement, albeit in a different format more closely tied to transportation. We will have to do advertising and the meeting will be open to the public so anyone will be able to attend and participate. Do not be discouraged by the outcome of the May meetings. We are still on track for this amendment to be completed this summer. Volunteers for Bike to Work Day and Bike Rode

Hello Everyone, Hope you all are getting out and biking despite all the rain. I am looking for volunteers to help with the following. 1. To distribute flyers to the elementary and middle schools in town. I should have flyers by tomorrow and will need help distributing them. (I have approval from the school board to distribute the flyers) 2. Bike To Work, Friday, May 20th (volunteers to lead rides and help set up) 8am to 8:30am Needed to set up, do raffle and lead rides. So far I have Chip and possibly Drew. We would like to have a little more representation if possible. 5:15 - 5:30pm Volunteers needed to meet up, possibly more raffles and head out to local restaurants. Chip and Drew both are possible but would like to have more representation. 3. Bike Rodeo, Sunday, May 22nd South Middle School 1-4pm We need volunteers to: -Help with registration (2 people) -Help with skills clinic - To be there to help manage kids etc. So far we have Chip, Johnathan R., and possibly Drew that will be there. We need a few more probably 4-5 to help. Please let me know if you can volunteer for any of these events. Thank you, Brian

Another factor in making this decision was that the Traffic Committee was going to hear the proposed ordinance first, but as we know from practical experience, the TC always cancels meeting due to lack of quorum. -Jonathan

Miles for Smiles - Race Across Oregon

Friends -Sorry for cross-postings but would like to share a request from a friend in the School of Public Health, Adam Baus. He is tackling the Race Across Oregon in July - 48-hours, 522 miles - to raise money for Health Right to help provide dental care for our low-income individuals. Below, in Adam’s words, is how come he’s chosen to undertake this challenge. The Race Across Oregon is an opportunity for me to challenge myself, to connect with myself on some deeper level, and ideally grow in the process. However, I decided to make this Race about our community as well by raising money to help Milan Puskar Health Right provide dental care to low-income uninsured adults in North Central WV. Health Right has been providing vital medical care for 32 years. Just last year, budget cuts occurred making it more difficult to provide patients with the care they need, especially dental care. All funds raised go directly to Milan Puskar Health Right to provide dental care, oral health education and dental care supplies for low-income residents in our community. Role call for Meeting tonight - potential conflicts

Hello all! I'm excited for our meeting - and we definitely have a full agenda (as per usual!). However, we have two presidential candidates visiting our state holding last-minute rallies at the same time our meeting is scheduled tonight. The fervor surrounding the national elections leads me to believe that a number of folks may want to attend those rallies. We've been doing well to keep quorum for voting in the past meetings - will we have quorum tonight? Or are you planning to attend one of these rallies? No pressure either way - I'm just hoping to get my finger on the pulse. Thanks!Drew
